A Trip to the Flower Mart - Mt Eden Flower Company

Joslyn flew into San Jose today. Nancy, Claudia, Kelly and I picked her up at the airport and headed over to the flower mart to look at flowers for Jamie and Andy's wedding celebrations.

Flowers, flowers and more flowers equals -

HEA-van!!

Are these roses naturally this blue? What do you think?

"Did you see these ones over here?"

"What do you think about these?"

Looking beautiful.

Checking out the ribbons and vases etc department.

Some very fun things over here. These fuzzy things came with their own sunglasses. :-)

Interesting merchandizing displays - these are silk flowers.

I loved the colors of this display - well, more than the colors -loved all of it.

Joslyn and all checking selections.

Final product. The flowers and colors are beautiful. Jamie and Andy I think will be very pleased, happy, satisfied - all those good positive "job well done" type feelings!

What a Kid!

It's Hip to be Square

Evan's home for Spring break. I had a project for the both of us. Can you guess what it is?
Home Depot - 3 2x8x8 planks of untreated pine - 4 brackets - 4 giant nail things.

After getting the wood cut to size we loaded up.We kept 2 planks as is and cut the third plank into two 3 foot lengths.
Have it figured out?

After we purchased some bags of vermiculite and compost we headed to OSH to buy screws (smaller quantities than Home Depot ;-) and buy some peat moss.

Now do you know?
Wood laid out to line everything up.

Making sure the equipment is in working order.

Drilling pilot holes.

Putting in the screws.

Attaching anchor brackets.

Brackets and giant nail things to secure everything in place.

Voila! A "Square Foot Garden" planter box!
And see -it is a project for the both of us - I helped.

Evan's spreading a layer of garden soil.

Making our own "Mel's Mix" - 1 part vermiculite, 1 part peat moss, 1 part compost.
We started out on painter's plastic - way too thin...

Oops!

Onto a tarp. Was much more manageable. We mixed the "mix" together by rolling it back and forth, side to side, in the tarp. That's 6 cubic feet of mix.

We needed another 6 cubic feet of mix - which we had everything on hand.

Ready for planting!
